Friends We Will Miss

 

 

 David Turner passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006 at his Indian Lake residence. Mr. Turner retired from the Immigration and Naturalization Service before moving to Indian Lake in 1988. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed spy novels. David was the proud father of six sons and two daughters and spent a good part of his life attending Little League games.

 

Louis Binns, longtime winter resident of Indian Lake, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at the age of 92 in Independence, Missouri. Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby. Louis was a member of the Kansas City Ironworkers Union and the Grandview Chapter of the Masonic Lodge. He was an Elder in the Community of Christ (Formerly: Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August, 12, 2006 at the Community of Christ Church in Olathe, Kansas. You may leave messages for the family at Guest Book. Grace Ritenour passed away on July 3, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She was 85 years old. Grace and her husband Ron lived in Lanark, IL and were winter residents of Indian Lake. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 7, 2006, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.   Maria Isabel Esquives, longtime resident of Indian Lake, passed away at her residence on June 3, 2006 at the age of 96. She was born in Zacatecaz, Mexico to Ausencio Tovar and Juliana Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ignacio Esquives, and four brothers. She is survived by six daughters, Anita Serrano, Margarita Maldonado, Angelita Perez, Lupita De Leon, Maria Ruiz and Maria Ellwood. Other survivors include 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 31 grandchildren, 96 great-grandchildren and 40 great-great-grandchildren. A chapel service was held June 5, 2006 at Funeraria Del Angel. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park.

 

Lovell Richards of Indian Lake and Adel, Iowa passed away on April 27, 2006 one day after his 79th birthday. He is survived by his wife Pat, their sons Dennis (Mary Lu) and David (Donna), five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sisters Hazel Smith and Florence Eaton, and many nieces and nephews. Private services will be held in Iowa.                          

 

 

Vi Swayze of Ridgeville, Ontario passed away on February 14, 2006, at the age of 89. Vi and her husband, Aubrey, were longtime winter residents of Indian Lake and were very involved with the Activity Committee.

 

 Jim Taylor passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Barnum, Iowa while visiting his daughter. He was 86 years old. He is survived by his wife Elda and two daughters, Judy and Jan. He loved playing cards; his favorite game was 313. Jim will be missed by all of his friends in Indian Lake. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2006 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt, Iowa. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Humboldt.

 

 Eleanor “Sandy” Longendyke, age 92, passed away January 18, 2006 in San Antonio, TX. Eleanor’s husband, Stuart died in 1995. Eleanor moved to Camelot in Harlingen in October of 2002 but is still remembered by her many friends in Indian Lake. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Services are under the direction of Sunset Northwest Funeral Home in San Antonio.

 

 

Longtime Indian Lake resident Karen Gonzales died in a traffic accident November 30, 2005 at the age of 44. She is survived by one brother, her parents, Charles and Yolanda Gonzales of Brownsville and three daughters, Michelle, Hermelinda and Kayla. Karen was looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild in December. She will be missed by all of her friends in Indian Lake.

 

 Pat Van Laanen passed away on November 27, 2005 at the age of 76. She raised three sons, Rick, Randy and Dan. Rick and his wife Marilyn live in California. Dan and his wife Kathy live in Indian Lake. Pat also leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Following her wishes, Pat’s ashes will be scattered near her favorite fishing spot in the bay. The family will host a celebration of her life at the Indian Lake Town Hall Building, Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. Please bring your favorite stories about Pat for their memory book.

 

  Our friend Peg Renken died November 6, 2005, at her other home in Belton, MO. She is survived by her husband Don Renken and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Peg and Don spent many winters in Indian Lake and enjoyed playing bridge with other couples. Contributions in Peg’s memory may be sent to KC Cancer Center Foundation, 4320 Wornall Rd., Suite 212, KCMO 64111. Arrangements are entrusted to McGilley & George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton, MO 64012. Services will be Thursday, November 10, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  Martha Delaune passed away July 26, 2005 at the age of 84. Mrs. Delaune’s companion and best friend, Walter Fischbacher died April 27, 2005. Martha and Walter were longtime residents of Indian Lake and will be missed by their many friends. One of Martha’s daughters, Linda Sue Delaune, lives in Indian Lake. A chapel service was held on July 30, 2005.

 

 Raymond Billett passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, TX. He is survived by his sister Alma Jean and her husband Max Jentsch. Ray served in the U. S. Navy for three years and in the Merchant Marines for 39 years. Many Indian Lake residents remember his colorful stories of life at sea. Ray was cremated and his ashes were scattered over the water.

 

 Cristina R. Saldivar lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 22, 2005. She died at home surrounded by her family. Christina was born in Matamoros on November 25, 1966. She was a cafeteria manager at Las Yescas Elementary School and will be missed by all of her friends at the Los Fresnos school district. Among the many relatives she leaves behind are her husband Jose, and their daughter Cristina "Kiki" Saldivar, both of Indian Lake. Cristina was laid to rest in Los Cuates Cemetery following the funeral mass at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Los Fresnos.

 

 Anthony J. Michaels passed away February 19, 2005. Tony was born February 28, 1921. He is survived by his wife Violet. Services were held February 23rd in Palos Hills, Illinois.

 

 Sarah Baker Rogers, 96, passed away November 23, 2004 at Valley Regional Medical Center. Her son, Robert Rogers and his family live in Indian Lake. Miss Sarah will be missed by her many friends and pen pals. A memorial service was held Friday, November 26, 2004 in San Benito, TX.

 

 Jeanne Gorman passed away on July 22, 2004 at the age of 86. A memorial service was held Tuesday, August 10, 2004.

 

 Our friend, Ray Fischer passed away January 7, 2004. Ray, you will be missed by all of your dancing buddies, your Breakfast buddies and your neighbors. You were a great friend and neighbor. God bless – may you rest in peace.

 

 Geraldine Lemon died Tuesday, December 16, 2003. She was born December 29, 1914 in Bournemouth, England. She became a U.S. citizen in 1962. A memorial service was held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fort Collins, Colorado. An accomplished athlete, Geraldine attended the National Senior Olympic Championships from 1991-2001 in tennis, table tennis, and swimming, winning many gold, silver, and bronze medals.
